In most cases, the answer is NO! The total cost of a newly constructed home has many variables which have limited stability and price locks. The builder’s cost of a particular unit may only be fixed for 90 to 180 days. When a builder agrees to construct your home, the builder’s cost must be locked with its vendors or be subject to losing money.
A production home builder often agrees to buy a certain number of units at a set price. If a home buyer wants a better unit than what is included in the base price, expect to pay a hefty premium. In most cases this is never discussed as the homebuyer is purchasing with rose colored glasses on. Homebuying for many is an emotional purchase and not a logical one. After all, it’s all NEW! What could go wrong? It’s under warranty. . . right?
Not thinking down the road can be risky and end up costing you big bucks. Some air conditioner units are anticipated to last 15 to 20 years, while others are only 12 to 15 years. Sooner or later that unit will need to be replaced. Our suggestion is to know what you are buying! Know what is included and get it in writing before signing on the dotted line.
